Our preschool program is offered for children ages 12 months through 59 months (age determined as of September 30). We offer part-time (9 am – 1 pm) and various extended care options, including full-time (8 am – 5:30 pm). Please Note: We are not a year-round program. We are only open from late August to the mid-June.
We are a play-based program that specializes in allowing your child to learn and grow in a safe and loving environment. We use developmentally appropriate practices to meet children where they are and introduce, develop and reinforce their cognitive, emotional, language development, physical and social skills.

Our Mom's Day Out Program consists of children ages 12 months to 17 months (by September 30th). In this age group, we are focused on teaching children about the world outside of their immediate family. They learn to interact and develop relationships with other adults and children. We model things such as taking turns, sharing and encouraging self-help.
For MDO, we offer 3 or 5 days per week in our part-time program.

3 Days per week (M/W/F) $650/mo
5 Days per week (M-F) $875/mo
Our Toddler Program consists of children ages 18 months to 35 months (by September 30th). In this age group, we are focused on teaching children about the world outside of their immediate family. They learn to interact and develop relationships with other adults and children. We model things such as taking turns, sharing and encouraging self-help. This is a crucial time for language development as children begin (and continue) to build verbal communication and learn to follow directions. Gross motor skills are also important at this age to develop those large muscles for balance and coordination.
For our Toddlers, we offer 3 or 5 days per week in our part-time program (with various extended care options). The full-time option is also available for this age group.

Children ages 36 to 47 months (by September 30th) are enrolled in our Preschooler Program. Our Preschoolers focus on learning about the world around them. We continue to work on Gross Motor Skills while also introducing and developing Fine Motor Skills. Their vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds! We introduce literacy concepts and print concepts to expand on their focus, knowledge of the world around them, and creativity. This age begins the concept of time and the development of memory. We also continue to develop and reinforce personal relationships and model appropriate behavior with role-playing.
For our Preschoolers, we offer 5 days per week in our part-time program (with various extended care options). The full-time option is also available for this age group.

At Virginia Hills Preschool, our Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Program is well known in our community. We pride ourselves in having our graduates ready for the start of Kindergarten. Our curriculum begins with the Fairfax County Public Schools' Kindergarten Readiness Guidelines. However, our graduates are far above and beyond those guidelines when they leave our building. Our Pre-K teachers have many years of experience and are very skilled at assessing each child (and adjusting their curriculum to meet each child’s needs). At this stage of development, our program focuses on increased independence, understanding of feelings and skills in problem-solving, and conflict resolution. Lots of modeling, role-playing and story-telling is used to develop and reinforce these life skills. In language and literacy, we are learning to understand more complex questions. The students learn about books and their proper use. We incorporate the “Handwriting Without Tears” writing curriculum. We continue to fine-tune those gross and fine motor skills. Our days include math concepts, learning about characteristics of objects, plus patterns and sorting. The Pre-K children also increase their demonstration of creativity and memory as those skills continue to develop.
We feel that it is imperative for our Pre-Kindergarteners to have consistent structure to their day to prepare them for success in Kindergarten. Therefore, our only part-time option is 5 days (with extended care options). Of course, we also offer a full-time option for Pre-K.

Our Preschool Extended Care Program consists of families that need care for longer than the typical preschool day (9AM - 1PM).
From 1PM - 3PM, students will have a rest/quiet time. While we know that not all children nap, the longer day is a bit much for some and they need some down time. We provide nap mats and families provide a blanket, sheet and possibly a comfort item that will calm or soothe their child(ren). These items should be brought at the beginning of the week and will be sent home for cleaning on Fridays. After quiet time, we have snack time to nourish those rested bodies. Each child must bring their own snacks (and lunch) from home. Weather permitting, we will have another playground time. Extended care is mostly free play. The children have lots of choices of table activities (coloring, games, playdoh, etc) as well as dramatic play opportunities.
